What Is Hardscaping?

When you have spent the time to create a beautifully landscaped lawn and garden, you want to make sure that you properly accessorize it to show it off. One way you can do that is to add hardscaping features.

Hardscaping

Hardscaping is anything that isn't some kind of plant. All your grass, flowers, trees, shrubs, or anything else that grows falls under the softscaping category. Everything else falls under hardscaping, even if it isn't necessarily hard. For example, a pond counts as a hardscape feature, and it's not something that's hard.

Adding a Hardscape Feature

If you decided that you are going to add some hardscape features to your lawn and/or garden, you want it to fit in with the rest of your landscape. One way to do that is to talk to your landscaper. You can tell them what you are thinking about and they can help you figure out what will look best in your overall landscape. Your landscaper can also help to install the feature. This is important because some of the features you may want to have in your landscape can be complicated to install. For example, if you want a pond with a fountain, that is going to involve a lot of digging, plumbing, and plantings to help the pond blend in well with the rest of your landscape. Having the professionals do it means that it will get done quicker and that it will be done the right way the first time around. So, what are some of the hardscape features that you can add to your landscape?

Bird Feeders/Baths

One of the things that you can add to your landscaping is a bird care station that would include things like bird feeders and bird baths. These things can help attract more birds to your yard, which will give you and your pets something to watch during the day, as well as make sure that the birds are able to find food, especially during the wintertime. Your landscaper can help you figure out where a good place to put bird feeders and a bird bath would be, as well as install them for you. If you are going to have a plumbed bird bath, then you need professionals to do the work.

If you have spent a lot of time on your landscaping so that it looks really nice, you may want to accent it. One way to do that is to add in some hardscape features.
